I Am Going To Portugal In January And Want To Know Where To Go Other Than Lisboa, The Algarve, And Porto.?
If you want to taste a little of the variety of portuguese landascape and culture I would sugest you to visit also the Minho region (a region up North). You can go to Braga for example (a lovely city) and if you like the mountains go to the Gerês National Park (although very badly preserved, is worth the trip). But almost every city and town in Minho are worth visiting (Viana do Castelo, Valença, Monção, Melgaço, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima…). Then travel along the Alentejo region (very diferent from the North and Center of the country), and visit Évora that is UNESCO World Heritage.
I also recomend very, very strongly the tipical medieval towns/villages of Óbidos (near Leiria), Marvão (near Portalegre) and Monsanto (near Castelo Branco). Monsanto it’s a small village with unpainted houses made of stone. Both Monsanto and Marvão are located on hills with breathtaking sights (you can see miles around).
If you like the beach even during Winter, you can travel along the coast from Sines to the Algarve (thus avoiding the highway) and experience some of the last wild beaches in Portugal.
In the Lisbon area you can also go to Sintra (also UNESCO World Heritage), and/or go to the beaches from Cascais to Ericeira. They are quitte nice…
Also very highly recomended are the beautiful Azores islands (in the middle of the Atlantic between America and Europe)…
